Joy and Travers had that moment at Margeaux. After an unreal tasting — and what they called “the best slice of pie we’ve ever had” — they knew. They chose Margeaux Supper Parlor in Cambridge, MA for their colorful and intimate celebration of 100 people. And honestly? It was perfect.

So many couples feel pressure to fit their wedding into a traditional mold. But what happens when you stop doing that and just lean into what you love? For Joy and Travers, that meant a venue that already felt warm, whimsical, and completely like them.
Restaurant weddings are criminally underrated. First of all, the atmosphere is already there. On top of that, the food is already incredible. Instead of managing logistics in a massive ballroom, you actually get to be present. You laugh with your people. You eat food you love. The laughter is louder. The joy is more real. Everything just breathes.
At Margueaux Supper Parlor, that’s exactly what happened.
Color, Joy, and Althea Floral Design
The first thing you’ll notice in these photos is the color. Bold, vibrant, and completely alive. The florals were designed by Althea Floral Design, and they were stunning. Rich tones, unexpected combinations, and whimsical arrangements that felt like they belonged in the space. No trying too hard. Just beautiful.
As a result, the florals set the tone for everything. This was a wedding that wasn’t afraid to be joyful, warm, colorful, and a little loud in the best way.
Authentic, Documentary Photography at Its Best
As a Cambridge documentary wedding photographer, my job is simple. Stay out of the way. Let authentic moments happen. At Margueaux Supper Parlor, those moments were everywhere. Tears during toasts. Eruptions of laughter at the dinner table. Quiet glances between two people who just got married.
I shot this wedding on film — 35mm and medium format — alongside polaroids throughout the night. Film captures warmth in a way digital simply can’t. The grain, the color, the way light falls across a table of people mid-laugh — it all feels true.
Joy and Travers weren’t interested in posing in a field for hours. Instead, they wanted to be with their friends and family. They wanted to eat the food, have the conversations, and feel the room. My role was to move through that quietly. The result? Images that feel joyful, warm, whimsical, and completely authentic to who they are.
That’s documentary wedding photography. And I love every bit of it.

If something about the traditional venue route isn’t sitting right, I want you to know: you don’t have to do it that way. Restaurant weddings, elopements, backyard celebrations, gallery spaces — if the venue already holds meaning for you, it’s already a great wedding venue.
In fact, the best weddings I’ve photographed all have one thing in common. The couple stopped trying to have the wedding they thought they were supposed to have. They started planning the one they actually wanted. The result is always more authentic, more joyful, and infinitely more them.
