Gloucester Elopement: Intimate North Shore Wedding Photographed on Film

By Rachael Shek, film wedding photographer serving New England and beyond

Some of my favorite weddings are the smallest ones. This Gloucester elopement for Brenna and Zac at Cranberry Hill had everything: their closest friends and family, a private estate on the North Shore of Massachusetts, a rainy morning that changed the plan, and one of the best sunsets I have ever photographed. If you are planning an intimate wedding in Massachusetts and dreaming of timeless film wedding photography, grab a coffee and keep scrolling. This one is for you.

A Small Private Ceremony at Cranberry Hill in Gloucester, MA

Brenna and Zac chose to celebrate with the people who mean the most to them. No huge guest list, no stiff timeline. Just a private estate, a handful of loved ones, and a day built around being present with each other. That is the heart of a great elopement. When you trim the guest list, you free up space for what actually matters: real moments, long hugs, loud laughs, and time to soak it all in. As a documentary wedding photographer, I live for that kind of day.

When It Rains on Your Wedding Day, Move the Ceremony Inside

The forecast showed a slight chance of rain, so just to be safe, we moved the ceremony indoors. The Cranberry Hill house had a beautiful sun room that was perfect for the ceremony. It was surrounded by windows that let all the soft light in.

Here is what I tell every couple planning a New England wedding: plan for rain, and embrace it. Indoor ceremonies feel cozy and intimate, the light turns soft and moody, and your guests sit close enough to hear every word of your vows. And if you don’t mind getting a little wet, I always say just keep it outside! Some of the best ceremony photos that I’ve taken happen during the ceremonies where couples embrace the sprinkles. Have some umbrellas on hand for the guests, and just live through the moment!

Trust your planner, trust your photographer, and let go of the rest. Huge thanks to Lindsay of @lindslovesevents for pivoting so smoothly. Her calm, organized planning kept the day running beautifully, and the officiant, @tiffernynco, the best friend of the bride, led a ceremony that felt personal and heartfelt, rain or shine.

Lush Greenery and Moss: Wedding Florals That Transform a Dinner Table

My friend Sam Callery of @samcallerydesigns designed the florals, and she outdid herself. Picture lush, textural arrangements packed with greenery, and a long dinner table covered in moss. It looked like an enchanted forest had moved indoors. Brenna described the florals and greenery as reminding her of being back home in Oregon! Oregon is on my bucket list to photograph, so if you or someone you know is planning an Oregon wedding or elopement, let me know! I offer discounts for my dream locations.

If you want wedding flowers that feel organic, wild, and a little unexpected, ask your florist about greenery-forward designs and natural elements like moss. They photograph beautifully on film, where texture and depth really shine.

A Private Chef Dinner for the Couple and Their Guests

Instead of a traditional reception, B&Z hosted an intimate dinner with a private chef cooking for the group. Catering came from @decklyns_gloucester, and everyone lingered at that mossy table long after the plates were cleared. If you are planning a micro wedding or elopement, a seated dinner with great food is a fantastic way to celebrate.

Why Choose Film Wedding Photography for Your Elopement or Intimate Wedding

When you only have a small group and a handful of hours, every frame counts. Film slows everything down. I shoot with intention, I capture the moments between the moments, and I deliver images that look timeless on day one and even better in 30 years. If you are a bold, colorful, unconventional couple who wants your wedding to feel like you, film is a gorgeous fit. Explore my film wedding photography packages or get in touch to check your date.
